History

Japan’s first emperor, Emperor Jinmu, founded Japan after his accession to the throne in 660 BCE in Nara.

After that, the Yamato Imperial Court began in Nara, and in 610 CE Heijo-kyo, present day Nara, was established Japan’s first capital, resulting in the beginning of the Nara Period.

From this, Nara is said to be the epitome of Japanese history and is known as the oldest capital.
